Gilgo Beach Murders/LISK UPDATE: Suffolk County Police Press Conference

It’s been nearly a decade since the hunt for the Long Island Serial Killer began. Today, Suffolk County Police revealed a new clue in the “Gilgo Beach murders,” also dubbed “The Long Island Serial Killer” or LISK for short.

During a press conference(Two part video below), Suffolk Police released images of what they describe as “a leather belt”, that previously withheld from the public. It is unclear if the belt was worn or used by the killer in one of the slayings. Police refused to release which crime scene it was recovered from or the size of the belt.

“A black leather belt embossed with the letters HM or WH was recovered during the initial start of the investigation. We believe the belt was handled by the suspect”, said Suffolk Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart.

Suffolk police also announced the launch of a new website, Gilgonews.com, where they will post information, news and updates about the Gilgo Beach Murders.

Hart also announced that the county approved searching public genealogy databases to identify the unidentified victims. For further in depth information on “Genetic Genealogy”, see my interview with Colleen Fitzpatrick of DNA DOE Project.
